The single best thing you can do to improve your water quality is to manage oxygen levels through aeration. Oxygen is a critical component to keeping ponds, lakes and other managed water supplies healthy and clean.
How do oxygen levels impact my water body?
Oxygen not only keeps fish alive but also supports the effective breakdown of nutrients in the water and bottom muck layer. Both the bacteria that feed on nutrients and the chemical breakdown of nutrients require oxygen. Without sufficient oxygen levels a pond or lake will become unhealthy, often stratifying, and have an increased probability of eutrophication.
The Most Effective Way to Aerate
Bottom diffused aeration creates a more efficient distribution of oxygen throughout your pond.
The bottom diffused aeration process introduces compressed air to a deeper part of the water column. A diffuser breaks the compressed air into fine bubbles. As the bubbles rise through the water column some oxygen from the bubbles is dissolved into the water. It also creates circulation in the water body, carrying water from the pond bottom to the top of the water column, where surface interaction further increases the dissolved oxygen levels. As the circulation continues this oxygenated water is returned to the bottom of the pond.
Designing a bottom diffused aeration system
Like all water management, bottom diffused aeration requires proper design with scope and scale. Algae Control Canada works with clients from fish pond to industrial tailings ponds and stormwater retention reservoirs. Key questions that need to be answered about your water to ensure efficient system design include:
- Size/surface area of pond?
- Pond depth?
- Areas of concern such as algae blooms and/or bad odours?
- Known nutrient loading factors?
We provide properly designed and scaled, complete systems that include everything you need to get up and running:
- Secure Cabinets
- Pressure controls
And if you need us to, we can install your system as well.
Already know what you need? We keep a large inventory of products and replacement parts in stock.
No accessible power source. No worries, we custom design solar aeration systems too.
